When I first moved to Utah I hated it.
I grew up in Texas and finished up high school living in Singapore.
I felt like I moved from an island filled with opportunity to an enclosed land filled with cookie cutter mormons.
I was right….
and wrong.
When I step outside I am completely surrounded by mountains and there are definitely some straight out the oven cookies living here.
But there is so much more…
There are kind, sincere, genuine people here…
And the mountains?
Well, they’re pretty cool sometimes too 🙂
“the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains…” (2 Nephi 12:2)
Good thing I had a change of heart because it looks like we could be living here for awhile…

I lived in southern California, Mexico, and Tennessee. I find Utah a big land of opportunity for me! Especially Provo!
Two University a few miles away and a bunch of high schools!
I will spread Hip Hop Culture to this town!
I grew up a military brat… lived in Japan (twice), Alabama, Georgia, Missouri, Kansas, Florida and finally Utah (when my dad retired). He was raised in SLC and always talked about ‘going home’ but to me it was just another place we lived. Then, as a military wife we lived in Nebraska and Colorado, ending up in Texas when we got an offer of employment from NASA. As with every other place I have lived, Utah has its good points and bad points – it was difficult dealing with the ‘cookie cutter’ people as my mold was very different from theirs – some accepted it others were not very kind. I found the lack of diversity to be a hinderance there and love the diversity we have found here. However, as with any location, it is what you make of it – so make the best of what there is and leave it better than when you got there.
