the devil wears prada.

Guess who’s sick?
My lovely wife has now joined me.
Welcome sweetie!

Since I have spent the past few days watching an unhealthy amount of TV, I decided to let Leah select todays featured presentations.

9:00 am – The September Issue
11:00 am – The Devil Wears Prada

The September Issue is a documentary about the Editor of Vogue magazine, Anna Wintour.

If you enjoyed The Devil Wears Prada, you’ll LOVE The September Issue.

I love parodies.
A good parody can often change my outlook on the original subject matter.

In The Office, there is an episode where Michael Scott watches The Devil Wears Prada and decides to act exactly like Meryl Streep’s character. (I tried desperately to find a quality clip on YouTube an came up empty- I’m sorry)

Michael Scott obviously overplays the part and makes the character from the movie seem absolutely ridiculous.

Well, somewhere between stumbling down our dungeon hallway and pouring myself another glass of ginger ale I slipped into one of those daydream moments typically seen in the movies.

After both movies, that Office episode and some pretty heavy medication my daydream took me to world where I played the role of Anna Wintour – BUT for the toy industry.

“Lego’s, NOW.”
“Get me rainbow gummy bears, NOW.”
“No, this toy is unacceptable, change it, NOW.”
“Where is my mint hot chocolate? I need it NOW.”

Oh man, the daydream was so funny that I was laughing as I hurried back down the hall to tell Leah.

When you watch The September Issue you will be amazed to see how much power this one woman has.
She tells Prada to change their fabrics and it is done.

Imagine a world where we gave the prophets the same kind of attention and immediate obedience that the multi-billion dollar fashion industry gives this ONE woman.
Wow.
There’s a whole new world.
“Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.” (Amos 3:7)

dumb and dumber.

19 02 2011

I have had a lot of time on my hands.
My day started with Harry Potter and after watching three of those I decided it was time to mix things up.

So, I turned to an old classic, Dumb and Dumber.
Easily my favorite Jim Carey movie and one of his first movies.

The movie is FILLED with classic quotable lines.
In fact this was the movie of choice to quote in my mission. I’ve heard the same thing from other former missionaries as well.

They just don’t make’em like this anymore.

Man, I really need to get better.

I’m starting to go crazy down here in the dungeon.
Cabin fever?!?!?!

Yes, that reminds me of another movie I loved growing up.
Muppet Treasure Island.

Yep. Cabin Fever.
But I guess I shouldn’t complain, it could be worse.
“And thus they were driven forth, three hundred and forty and four days upon the water.” (Ether 6:11)

? What do you like to do when you’re sick?

strep & rising fever.

7 02 2011

I went to a doctor this morning.
This is the first time I’ve been to the doctors office in years.

“They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick…” (Mark 2:17)

The lady asked me who my primary care physician is…
Great question.
I don’t have one.

I should probably look into that…

Well, my fever hit 103.
And my strep throat test came back positive!
Yay!

The good news is that the doctor said the antibiotics should have me back in good shape by the end of the week.

This is good because I’ve got the Federation Finals this weekend.
I need to be better so I don’t let the guys down.

I’m tired and sweaty. (yeah, I’ve been sweating for days now)
I’m going back to sleep.

? Have you ever had strep before?

39 degrees celsius.

6 02 2011

Do you know how much 39 degrees celsius is?
I wouldn’t either except that the thermometer I used this morning only used Celsius, so we we had to look it up online.

39 degrees celsius = 102.2 degrees fahrenheit.
This is America – why is my thermometer reading Celsius?!

That was my temperature when I woke up this morning.
It may have been even higher at some point last night.

I woke up basically swimming in sweat. Have you ever swam in sweat? No, of course not – but I did last night.
I cannot remember the last time I felt that sick.
I wanted to die at one point, if I remember correctly.
“They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.” (Luke 5:31)

I think that was because the sweat smelt horrific.
I’ll try and avoid too much detail on the actual smell – but it was bad.

I felt so bad for Leah – but she did such an awesome job taking care of me.
She’s gonna be a great mom someday.
If she can handle “sick Kyle” then she is ready for pretty much anything.

I still don’t feel so good – but hopefully I can sleep it off the rest of today.

? What do you do for a high fever?
