never say never.

12 02 2011

I get sucked into cheesy, inspirational movies so easily.
You know the ones I’m talking about; the hero follows there dream, overcomes obstacles and eventually triumphs.
If it is “based on a true story” then I get even more excited!

Rocky.
Rudy.
Remember the Titans.
Cinderella Man.
Disney’s Hercules.
Step Up 3.
8 Mile.

and now…
Never Say Never.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Never Say Never is a documentary/concert film all about the latest pop sensation to steal the hearts of every teen girl in the world – Justin Bieber.

I am only partially ashamed to admit that even I’ve got a mild case of Bieber fever. Everybody has different things that flick this internal switch in them that push them to be better. Cheesy inspirational movies hit that spot every time with me.

I loved the movie.

It’s an unabashed propaganda piece that portrays the journey of young Bieber from a toddler playing drums to teen hearth throb.
I love these stories.
It doesn’t matter what the context is, I love seeing people live there dreams.

Football.
Boxing.
Dancing.
Singing.
Etc. etc.

It only further motivates me as I continue moving towards my personal dreams.

“There is a spirit in man, and the inspiration of the Almighty…” (Job 32:8)

I’ve got the Finals for this huge bboy competition tonight.
I’m ready.
I’ve practiced.
I’ve recovered form the strep throat.

I’ve listened to some Justin Bieber today.
Yeah I’m gonna kill it tonight.

? Do you get sucked into the inspirational movie genre?

parade of homes.

21 08 2010

Leah recently helped design a magazine for the Park City “Parade of Homes” showcase. Consequently, we got free comped tickets to go check out the homes.

Park City is winter dreamland.
The resort is beautiful and the snowboarding is amazing.
I’ve been plenty of times during the winter, but I can’t remember the last time I was there during the summer.

It is just as beautiful during the summer.

And the homes….

Well, they are amazing. (But then again, it was a showcase of homes, so they should be amazing!)

It was a lot of fun walking around these amazing homes…

As we were walking around all I could think about was the “dungeon” we will be occupying for the next undetermined amount of time. It was great because I recognized that I am only at the beginning. The beginning is supposed to be like this. But I caught another glimpse of the direction I am headed and I like it. I looked at the homes and instead of envy I felt determination.

I don’t necessarily need a grandiose home – BUT, you gotta dream BIG, right?
Right!

“For a dream cometh through the multitude of business…” (Ecclesiastes 5:3)

The American Dream is a term that has been used to centuries to describe the ability of a hardworking individual to achieve success in this country. With the right amount of hard work and some favorable circumstances the American Dream is out there waiting to be captured by anyone willing to find it.

But for now I can’t wait to move into the “dungeon” with Leah.
Because it will be our dungeon. And I’m going to enjoy every minute of the beginning of the journey…

? What are some of your big dreams?

livin’ the dream.

26 07 2010

We moved to Singapore my Senior year of high school.
It was one of the best experiences of my life. (I spent my senior year on a tropical island, how could it not be amazing?)

There was a family that moved away a few years before we got there, but we heard all about them – the Jacksons.
I’ve only met a few of them, but they seem like a wonderful family and I’ve only heard good things about them.

They have a son named Joey.

I’m always joking around with people about “livin the dream“.
Well, Joey is officially livin’ the dream.

He is practically a professional traveler.

I’m a little fuzzy on the exact purpose of his various adventures – but I know he takes the MOST incredible pictures everywhere he goes. They capture more than just an image – I feel like I could write stories about each picture I see.

You have to check out his website – Anthon Jackson

Here’s a couple I am reposting from his site just in case you aren’t sure you’re ready to commit to clicking a link : )

Incredible, right?
Yeah, I know!

“Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.” (Exodus 20:17)

Ok – so I don’t covet any of those things.
But I do covet the freedom he has to just go and do these things.

Wow.
I’ve laid in bed just thinking about traveling, writing, dancing, taking pictures – yes, all of them at the same time!
Oh man.

Too bad they’re just dreams… for now.

? If you could do ANYTHING right now with no worries about finances, family-ties, jobs – what would you do or be?

inception.

22 07 2010

Best movie in the theater right now?
Inception.

The night it opened my Facebook was flooded with status updates about how amazing the movie was.
I saw it with Leah last night.

It was one of the best movies I have ever seen. EVER.

Look, when you mix Christopher Nolan (Director of Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Prestige) and Leonardo DiCaprio (Blood Diamond, The Departed and Shutter Island) you’re bound have a blockbuster on your hands.

The story is incredible and the presentation phenomenal.

Leo infiltrates dreams and learns secrets he has been hired to retrieve. Eventually he is hired to for an “inception“. Instead of removing thoughts and secrets he is challenged to place a thought in someone’s mind.

The movie leaves you wondering where the line between reality and subconscious is drawn.

Imagine if someone could actually enter your subconscious and alter it – place a thought so simple and so deep in your mind that you actually feel you came up with the idea yourself.

Incredible! The whole idea is just incredible!

In order to accomplish the missions there needs to be someone who creates the dream, an “architect”.

DiCaprio discusses the role of architect with the girl he is interviewing for the position. He makes a comment that has some strong gospel meaning.

“When you’re truly inspired, it’s almost as if you’re not creating so much as discovering something that already exists.”

“And there began to be men ainspired from heaven and sent forth…” (3 Nephi 6:20)

Inspiration comes from Heavenly Father.
He knows everything. He saw the car long before it was invented. The same goes with inventions and things being “discovered” or “invented” today.

In a much smaller way I feel like I have had similar feelings. You have probably felt it as well. Something just clicked and you weren’t creating but you were remembering.

Oooohhh – I’m excited just thinking about it.

? If you’ve seen the movie I want to know your thoughts about the ending?

If you haven’t seen the movie watch this trailer and go see the movie!
