family… isn’t it about, time?

20 09 2010

Tonight was our first FHE as a married couple…
And luckily for us – we got to spend it with my family!

Kourtney is in town, with her boyfriend Jake so we all went out to eat at Malawis Pizza in the Riverwoods. (which, by the way, Jake is AWESOME!)

Sidenote: Malwais Pizza is amazing! It’s a high end pizza place that has a wonderful selection of traditional pizzas as well as dessert pizzas! And if that isn’t enough – every time you buy a pizza they feed a child in Africa!

I LOVE being with my family. Even when the circumstances aren’t the most ideal. Kory is going through a rough patch right now. I feel for him, I really do. I wish there was more I could do for him.

What do you do when one of your best friends is going through a tough breakup?

You burn everything that reminds them of the former girlfriend!
So, our FHE took us back to Aunt Val’s so that we could use the fire pit to send her up in smoke (figuratively, of course).

There is something special in the moments following a breakup. You have the opportunity to see someone unguarded. I have never seen my brother like this. If you know him, you know he is ridiculously confident (and rightfully so) and seemingly very sure of himself. The past week or two I have seen a side of my brother I have often wondered about. He has never talked about emotions for as long as I can remember.

I have looked up to him for years now (mostly since he left on his mission) but these past few weeks have brought even greater admiration and love. I would do anything for him (the same as I would for ANY of my family).

“Let his family rejoice and turn away their hearts from affliction…” (D&C 124:76)

So, how do you get over a bad breakup?
I guess there is no real answer.
You just take it day by day….

? How do you get over a breakup?

That is awesome! A burning for FHE! When my sister Christina broke off an engagement she did something similar though it involved a knight in shining armor building-a-bear going through a fatal surgery. A horrible surgery that involved ketchup and mustard of all things. He did not survive but she sure felt better afterwards!

Whenever my friends and I went through a bad breakup we would kick everything out with a retreat or quick vaca to celebrate them getting freedom back… The next week we would each choose someone to set them up with… And end that week with another quick trip best therapy ever on my opinion… Best activity is rock climbing and repelling cause you are free to choose what you want to do fall or hold on and you see what is good in yourself and someone is always there to catch you… Just my input. Breakups suck but giving yourself time to soak is no good you can really lose sight of things and a your state of mind goes down hill. Good luck!

I LOVE your idea of doing a trip! That sounds awesome. I’m not even the one going through the breakup and I think I could use a trip! Hahaha. Thanks for the advice!!!

Okay…you made me cry. How I would love the hear (or read) my boys express their love and admiration for each other like you have done here. That is a wonderful thing, especially for males, to be able to put your feelings into words. I love the burning in effigy…there are definitely some pictures around here I would have liked to burn the past 5 years.
