karate kid.

11 08 2010

Leah and I saw The Karate Kid last night.

The movie was great, a little long but I enjoyed it.

Jaden Smith is EXACTLY like his father (Will Smith) and Jackie Chan shows more depth than he usually does.

I have always been a big fan of the Asian culture. (This most likely stems from my short stint living in Singapore).

There is a scene in the movie that really embodies foundation of the culture. A older Chinese man is speaking to Jaden Smith towards the end of the movie and he says, “you have brought honor to your family.”

You have brought honor to your family.

I love this line. Think about friends, relatives, coworkers or whoever you know that has strong Asian roots and you will agree that the idea of honoring your family is VERY prevalent.

Only ONE of the ten commandments comes with an explicit blessing immediately following the command.

“Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.” (Exodus 20:12)

When we think of honoring our parents we may think of being successful and bringing prominence to the family name.

This is only one way to honor our parents.
Heavenly Father says that we can bring honor to our parents through obedience.

And think about your heavenly parents. We honor Heavenly Father with our obedience to Him.

? What do you think is a good way to bring honor to your family?
