Vaughn Walker.

Do you recognize the name?
You should after yesterdays latest debacle in the Proposition 8 issue.

Chief U.S. District Judge Walker is apparently a very powerful man.
With the stroke of his pen, he single handedly overturned the votes, values and beliefs of 7 million men and women in the state of California.

In case you missed all of the excitement – Judge Walker overturned Proposition 8 (a ban on same-sex marriage).

Here is a quote from Judge Walker that just floored me:

Gender no longer forms an essential part of marriage; marriage under law is a union of equals.

PLEASE tell me you are joking.
Gender is the most essential part of a marriage!

I typically use scriptures from the standard works here in my blog but today I’m going to use something else because it is just as good:

“We, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.” (The Family: A Proclamation to the World)

Man, I’m steamed.

And I’m not as steamed about Proposition 8 as I am about this judge.

Who do you think you are?
Do you realize what you have just done?

Democracy failed us yesterday.

Judge Walker you were elected by the people.
They elected you on the pretext that you were going to represent them.

You failed your constituents.

Imagine if it had been the other way around.
Imagine a judge overturned the popular vote and took away the right for gays to marry.
There would be pandemonium.

No one won yesterday.

? What are your thoughts on the overturning of Proposition 8?

My voice and vote do not matter. Some people comment on this overturning the Prop 8 similar to what happened in the 60’s with the civil rights movement. How dare people confuse race and gender, one is something your born with and the other is a CHOICE they make. Democracy has failed and will continue to fail as we have seen history repeats itself. Marriage should be between man and woman!
And on top of that Gays and Lesbians were able to receieve the benefits married couples receive anyways. BTW anyone in California can marry anything – animal, lamp, carpet…etc..
I pray for our country!
