cinco de mayo.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for 5th of May).

Yes. I speak Spanish.
No. I don’t speak fluently, kind of fluently, or remotely fluently…

In fact, the grand total of words I know in Spanish is probably somewhere between cinco and ocho (that’s 5-8 for you non-Spanish speakers)

I need to begin my adventure into the Spanish language soon.

Why?

One of the first things Leah’s dad said to me was this–jokingly of course:

“You’ve got 2 options if you’d like to join this family — you can convert to Catholicism OR you can learn Spanish.”

Hhmmm.

My initial thought?
The sale of indulgences. It would be nice to be able to repent by paying for my sins — but then I realized I have no money so it doesn’t do me much good. (and I know they don’t practice that anymore, so don’t think me uncultured)

My second thought?

Oh well — looks like I will be needing a special gift:

“…let the gift of tongues be poured out upon thy people…” (D&C 109:36)

? What languages do you speak — any suggestions for FAST Spanish learning?

Ephesians 5:11-17 and do not have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather also reprove them , for the things that are done by them in secret it is shameful even to say. But all things having their true character exposed by the light are made manifest; for that which makes everything manifest is light. Wherefore he says, Wake up, thou that sleepest, and arise up from among the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee. See therefore how ye walk carefully, not as unwise but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. For this reason be not foolish, but understanding what is the will of the Lord.

..be careful what you are getting into: the Catholics still practice indulgences, even in the middle of the abuse by the priests and their protectors. Those very priests and protectors of pedophiles can sell an indulgence..

It never went away. In fact, they are ‘reviving’ the practice in the midst of the financial melt-down of the Roman Catholic institution’s abuse cases ..that keep growing ..and growing.

The chief way of hooking a unwary man into a cult is through the women in that cult.

Mark 4:23 If any one have ears to hear, let him hear.

Interesting article in the Times. Thank-you for sharing.

Just as a clarifying note — her dad was totally joking! He doesn’t actually expect me to do either. Although learning Spanish would definitely be helpful, especially since the general American population seems to be heading that direction.

But Leah and I are happy and 100% satisfied being LDS and will continue that for the rest of… forever : )

I appreciate your thoughts and comments.

Have a great day!
