the good. the bad. the ugly.

19 04 2010

It was inevitable — the barrage of questions to determine whether I can stick around or whether I should look into ending the trip a little early.

I went out to eat with Leah and her parents this evening. We went to one of their favorite Mexican restaurants. The food was wonderful — I hate to say it though but my appetite is not all there. Chalk it up to nerves.

Dinner ended — then the fun began.

“What are your intentions with our daughter?”

After that we were off to the races…

Best description of the questions asked is the title of this movie —

The Good:

?  Tell us about the type of person you are?

The Bad:

?  Why are you 26, unemployed and not in graduate school?

The Ugly:

?  What’s the deal with the whole Kristin thing?

I only wrote 3 –but the questions were numerous… and one question typically led into another question etc. etc.

During all the questioning I was fine… Then I had to take a bathroom break and went into the bathroom and imagined I was on 60 Minutes being asked these questions in front of a national audience. That entire imaginary scenario lasted during the time it took me to pee, wash my hands and stare at my face in the mirror. (a solid 2 minutes)

Anybody else face a series of difficult questions?

“And this Zeezrom began to question Amulek, saying: Will ye answer me a few questions which I shall ask you?” (Alma 11:21)

Ok, so a little bit of a different situation. Her parents were not trying to catch me in my words hoping I would screw up. (at least not that I’m aware of)

It wasn’t bad at all. Leah is amazing, and I don’t blame them one bit for wanting to know anything and everything about the guy who is so keen to marry her. (me!) I answered the questions honestly and to the best of my ability.

I’m pretty sure things went well.

(cue:  facial expression that means I’m not really sure I believe what I just said)
